We have completed all manner of commercial building projects across Exeter and Devon, and our next call to action is never far away. As commercial building contractors, we’d like to showcase some of the organisations we’ve worked with, to improve the structure and appearance of their facilities. Here we will go through the projects, from east to west, giving an overview of each process.
We were contacted by Clyst Vale Community College as they required a commercial refurbishment to their reception area. We began by stripping out the contents of the existing reception area, before re-leveling the floor and constructing the area in studwork. This was a project that gave us the opportunity to show off a bit of everything, as we also provided suspended ceiling installation and formed the new desk area using our innovative eye and decorative skills.

Did you know, Blundell’s school was formed in 1604 under the will of Peter Blundell, one of the richest men in England in the late 16th/Early 17th century?
Blundell’s came to us requiring a property refurbishment of the boys and girls changing rooms, shower and toilet areas. The first phase of the project was removing all of the contents from both rooms. Our Exeter builders then undertook a complete overhaul of the walls and floors before creating two new exit openings and installing new frames and doors.
Once the structure of the new space was in place, we commenced with the next phase. This included the construction of studwork to form the new lobbies and replacing existing doors and windows. Once all the walls were plastered in the main changing area, we installed a suspended ceiling, before applying all the decorative touches – including a new vinyl floor covering and the installation of custom made benches and shoe racks.
As for the toilet and shower areas, the process we went through was very similar to that of the changing rooms. We started by raising and levelling the floors in concrete and timber, before boxing in the pipework, cladding the walls in Whiterock, decorating the doors and installing new vinyl to the floors.

Just one of a long list of office refits or office refurbishments that we’ve carried out. This project presented us with a blank canvas, as we were tasked with transforming Enterprise Rent-A-Car’s virtually empty office building into an effervescent and vibrant space. We started by getting rid of the remaining fixtures, from the disused building acquired by Enterprise.
We completely refitted the interior and exterior with great efficiency, ensuring our client was able to cohere to their schedule and set opening date. We also added Enterprise’s branded signage to the outside of the building. Enterprise were extremely happy with the results of the office refit, and highly complimentary about the methodical way in which we work here at Cowley’s! Fun fact: The Maynard School was founded in 1658 and is the third oldest all girls’ school in the country.
This general building project allowed us to show off the diverse range of capabilities that makes us one of the leading construction companies in Exeter. We devised a structured plan upon initial contact with The Maynard School, as they looked for a new outbuilding for the storage of equipment.
The first stage saw us lay concrete foundations and build a blockwork wall, up to the level of the existing adjoining gym floor. Then, we went onto erect access scaffolding, cut and fit roof timbers and fit galvanised floor sheets.
We utilised Marley Cedral cladding for the external walls and clad the inside walls with ply – next on the agenda at this stage was suspended ceiling installation. Once this was complete, we added a stained door and dismantled the scaffolding. The Maynard School were overjoyed with the quality of the outbuilding and are thankful for the additional storage space.
